The Art & Nature Lecture Series is an ongoing discussion about Art and the world around us. The Umstead Hotel & Spa has welcomed artists on a seasonal basis to present their work and inspirations in an interactive discussion with our local audience in Cary, NC.

The Umstead Hotel and Spa is pleased to showcase artist Lynn Boggess to our Art Gallery.

Lynn Boggess, a graduate of Cranbrook Academy of Art and former Professor of Art at Fairmont State University in West Virginia paints en plein-aire using a portable shelter. His technique of stylistically applying thick paint with a variety of trowels is unique.  Boggess’ paintings were the first pieces of art selected by the hotel’s founder, Ann Goodnight. She felt his style typified the woodsy, quiet setting of The Umstead Hotel and Spa. Eleven works were ultimately chosen for the hotel’s collection.

Past presenters have included Seagrove potter Ben Owen, Atlanta-based painter Scott Upton, photographer Kim Kauffman, floral artist Steve Taras of Raleigh's Watered Garden, and even the NC Opera Company. It is our goal to explore and broaden our knowledge of all varieties of art and nature through this sort of collaborative discussion.
